June 19 -
Fort Lauderdale
fishing / offshore
Our Fort
Lauderdale
fishing has been up and down on this full moon. One group we had
pleasure
of
fishing was the Malone family out of
Oak Hill, California
this week. Nice folks with two personable and well behaved kids ( Austin
and Dylan). We had a good time. Mr. Malone landed and released a Spinner
Shark on light tackle near the inlet, after a first fish broke our
leader with his spinning twisting jumps. These are brutally strong fish
and determined and often spectacular fighters. One fish on the wish list
was a Swordfish but a trip offshore to the Swordfish grounds produced
only one bite on the Swordfish bait. All was certainly not lost as a
nice full grown White Marlin
was
landed and released by Mrs. Malone a scant three miles from the
Swordfish area. Our weather is beautiful if not a little dry. Often our
afternoon trips encounter a shower or two, but no rain as of late. Sea
conditions are essentially calm with a cooling breeze in the afternoons.
Good weather here for our Fort. Lauderdale fishing trips.
Happy Fathers Day.
Capt. Rick

June 5 - Fort
Lauderdale
fishing / reef fishing
Fort
Lauderdale
fishing, and especially fishing on the reefs, has been productive. We
are continuing to catch Kingfish on the reefs along with the usual
Bonito or “Little Tunny” as they
are properly called mixed in the same depth. Inside 150 feet of water
has been best. About every seventh or eighth Bonito turns into a
Blackfin Tuna as we catch them essentially on the same rods and using
the same presentation.
Makes
for a nice surprise. Seems the
Tuna pull just a little bit harder most of the time than a Bonito. Fun
to catch either way. We have also caught a couple of smaller Wahoo
(12-15 #) while fishing the reef and targeting the above species. When
we have tried for the Wahoo we haven’t connected, so it’s nice to get
lucky and catch an incidental one. We have spent some time fishing on
some shallow wrecks on spinning tackle and this has given us some
assorted species of Jacks, but also nice snappers. Pictured is a fine
Mutton Snapper caught by John aboard Marlin My Darlin who actually used
to be a commercial fisherman in the Northeast. Hope you find this Fort Lauderdale fishing report helpful.

/ Family Fun
Fort
Lauderdale Deep Sea fishing can be just the ticket for a
family group looking to have some fun in the sun.
We had the pleasure of
hosting just such an outing aboard Marlin My Darlin last Sunday. When
the weather is right, the fish are biting, and the crew and the charter
click, then good things happen. My Sunday team of Tom and Tommy Kopper
crewed just such a charter for Richard, Julie, Rick, Katie, Ann and
Ricky D. A trip to a shallow water ship wreck yielded respectable sized
Mutton Snappers on light tackle. Some Bonito and average sized Kings
obliged and bent the rods. The fish of the day was a beautiful fat
Kingfish that took a deep trolled bait and rumor has it put up a
memorable tussle before posing with that infamous toothy Kingfish smile
in that happy picture. Fort
Lauderdale deep sea fishing= family fun today.
Just add water (and sunshine).

June 2 -
Ft.
Lauderdale deep sea
fishing / Aussies
Ft.
Lauderdale deep sea
fishing was fun today with a bunch of “Boys from down under” (Aussies).
We had some pretty good action up on top of the reefs and all our fish
were caught by trolling.
We
had a two boat charter and the competition was on. Braided line fished
with planer boards and long leaders out the back resulted in the most
bites. We fished Bonito belly strips behind a colorful sea- witch /
rubber skirt combo on those braided lines that Andrew cut in the usual
teardrop shape. There’s an art to cutting a perfect (or near perfect!)
strip bait and Andrew has gotten very adept at thinning and shaping
these baits. Only Andrew wasn’t here today, so Ean (who cuts a mean
strip himself) ran the cockpit and was more than happy to load the rods
with the strips. It makes a difference to have a pretty bait as most
fishermen are quick to realize. Bonito strips and Ballyhoo fished on the
surface on monofilament 40# line also scored some good bites. Kingfish,
Bonito, Tuna and Mahi-Mahi on an
AM charter. Really good fishing and some really great accents as
well. Our Ft. Lauderdale fishing deep sea fishing
charter was fun today with the Aussies. There’s some fish on the rack
too that you can’t see in the photo.
Tight lines, Capt Rick
