Ft. Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing Reports
Fort Lauderdale Fishing/ April 2011 Forecast
As we enter springtime in Fort Lauderdale the fishing
takes on a new turn of events. I’ve always considered this the beginning of
the fishing season here because multitudes of fish are passing through our
area and will continue for the next few months.
While Sailfish will be swimming north, Tuna and Dolphin
will be moving south. Sharks are bringing up the rear in the southerly
migration as the lead fish start their swim north and it just makes for an
“I don’t know” type of atmosphere. While anything can happen at any time,
April begins when this couldn’t be truer.
The reef will come alive with Kingfish and Bonito in
the next few months and this trend will continue through the summer. April
is also an excellent month for catching Wahoo and live bait isn’t used as
much as it is in winter.
Sailfish can still be targeted with good success by
both live baits and trolling. And for about the next 6 weeks or so, sharks
will become very abundant as the pregnant females move through the area.
Mostly Hammerheads, these very large sharks are hungry and attracted to our
baits as well as what we are catching. This begins a true test as to how
fast you can reel a fish in because a bit too slow and your catch becomes
dinner to something else.
The Mahi mahi and Tuna will also be making their runs
with some sizable fish being caught. It’s a great time of year to be fishing
in Fort Lauderdale and it all begins soon as it does every year. Even after
25 years of doing this, I still get excited, you just never know what will
pop up…
