Ft. Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing Reports
January 2012 Fort Lauderdale Charter Fishing/ January Forecast
Each month we try to give you an idea of what’s biting
while charter fishing in Fort Lauderdale in this forecast. Our daily blogs/
reports give you what we ARE catching in as real a time as we can get them
written and on the site here. I think we’re going to have a GREAT January,
2012!
December was a disappointment as far as what is prime
time for Sailfish. Even with a couple of cold fronts pushing through,
reports from north of here are that Sailfish are still there and quite
happy. We’ll see what our next front due tomorrow night has to say about
that! With a couple of days touting highs in the low and mid 60’s, this is
the kind of push they need to head for warmer conditions south. And to get
there, they have to travel through our area off the shore of Fort
Lauderdale. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled looking for Sailfish tailing
south on the surface allowing the waves and swells to help their swim. Get
in front of a group of these fish and expect a multiple hook up. Pure
pandemonium as far as keeping things clear as these fish try and elude and
escape us. And some do. That’s fishing and part of the thrill. But there is
much more than just Sailfish here in January.
Mahi-mahi
will be making their appearances from time to time and usually nice sized
fish. Tuna will also be around though they are usually here a little later
in the season. Kingfish, some of a large size will also be caught as we wait
for the Sailfish push with out kites up and live baits out.
We’ll also soon have some Amberjack moving into the
deeper wrecks and reefs we fish. Talk about a hard pulling creature, these
fish fight all the way up. Get one that stops fighting? You just might have
one of the Grouper that inhabit these wrecks. Better hope it’s a Warsaw or
Snowy Grouper, all shallow water Groupers are protected for the next few
months and must be released if caught. And that just plain hurts, but it
must be done.
Sharks will also become more of a target for those whom
wish to catch a large sea creature. Prepare for close to an hour in the
fighting chair. Endurance and not strength is the key to landing one of
these. Remember to breath.
