Ft Lauderdale Offshore Fishing Report- June 2010

What can you expect from Ft. Lauderdale fishing in June? Lots and lots of reeling!

Even though things are running a bit behind schedule this year due to our “cool” (I use that term for those of you that live in the cold) winter, soon the Florida sun will warm things and the King Mackerel and Bonito will inhabit the reef in tremendous numbers. Within weeks, fishing for Kingfish should take mere time to catch the allotted 2 per person limit. The only thing slowing down this process is the fact that the Bonito, the only non-edible fish we keep, stealing the baits from the Kings. The reef area becomes a mecca for these fish in the months of June, July and August.

While trolling the reef area, you will also encounter some Wahoo, possibly Dolphin if the water is clean and clear and of course, the occasional summertime Sailfish, always a pleasant surprise when they strike.Fort Lauderdale fishing

Further off shore from the reef area we will be searching for Dolphin (Mahi-mahi). Usually found around floating debris and weed lines that form, these fish are a blast to catch and great to eat. Wahoo, Tuna and maybe a Blue Marlin? All possible in June…

Even further off our shore are the Swordfish grounds. The light summer winds make Swordfishing, day or night, a great time of year to try for these prized fish. It takes a full day of fishing to go for these, but catching one can be very rewarding.

As the waters warm, sharks begin moving north. A few remain but are seldom caught. The Amberjacks will be moving on though they also leave a few behind. This means the deep wrecks and reefs will be open for that occasional Grouper or large Snapper bite.

We’ll keep you informed with our daily blogs…
