Ft. Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing Reports
Fort Lauderdale Fishing/ June 2011 Forecast

Fishing Fort Lauderdale in June has many opportunities
for catching some great fish. Plentiful is what first comes to mind. While
live baiting in the winter months provides us with one or two large fish,
trolling in the summer has us looking for a larger fish box. The action is
more consistent and at times, can be a bother. With the warm temperatures
and the humidity, people actually pass the rod to someone else for a break.
While the Bonito that usually take up much of the room
in our fish box are not here yet, The Kingfish are beginning to show in
numbers. Live bait can still produce some big ones as can trolling, but most
are averaging out to about 10 lbs. Soon the competition between the Bonito
and the Kings will be fierce and the deep rods on the reef will be in
constant use. And catching our limit becomes the norm instead of the
exception.
Dolphin (Mahi-mahi) are always a prized and wanted
catch. Fun to chase and catch, they are also an excellent eating fish.
Certain conditions like a lack of rain and clean water in close to shore
will have them close by. The norm is a little deeper water where the ocean
is always clean. And when searching off shore for them, the chance at a
Sailfish or a Marlin is also always a possibility.
Wahoo can also be found a bit further from shore
usually hanging around the same things as the Mahi’s. Almost anything found
floating can hold fish in the deep and this is what we search for along with
birds working an area. Fishing jumping from the water can be a good sign
too.

Even further out, with the seas usually calm, Swordfish
are available both day and night. The venture to the Swordfish grounds can
be a rewarding one during the day with Wahoo and Dolphin. It’s not unusual
to have Mahi swim right up to the boat as you are doing the drop for Swords.
Back on the reef, Snapper and a few Grouper are in full
swing. Vermillion Snapper aren’t very big but catching them 4 and 5 at a
time makes up for that. Quite tasty too. Toss in an occasional Sailfish or
Shark, and that will round things out.
Fishing Fort Lauderdale in June. Bring a hat, some sun
screen and maybe a rain jacket. And with the heat? That rain storm can feel
pretty darn good…
