Fishing/ Fishing Forecast
October, 2010
Fort
Lauderdale
fishing trends continue to change as they did last month. Our weather has
already cooled some and instead of low 90’s we are in the mid 80’s. That
mixed with the angle of the sun and the evenings cooling to low 70’s begins
to affect water temperatures. Fish being cold blooded feel this change and
move south for warmer waters… Right through the southeast coast of Florida just a few miles from shore here.
The smaller fish are the first to go south. Baitfishes
of all kinds begin to migrate and as they do, bigger fish follow the food
source. Tuna and small Sailfish will be the first to appear, with some
Dolphin and Wahoo mixed in as well. Kingfish will also come back into the
area feeding on the plentiful schools of baitfish. And of course, the
predators follow close behind… the Sharks.
Our fishing techniques also change to adapt to close
resemble what the fish are looking for. Trolling becomes less needed and
live bait by either kite fishing or dragging from the riggers is the norm
more often. And with the cooled temperatures more fish feed on the surface
where the bait is easier to catch.
It’s all beginning right now in Fort Lauderdale, and will continue for the
next few months. Some great fishing is ahead, come join us soon!
