Ft. Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing Reports
Ft Lauderdale Offshore Fishing Report- September 2008
September is here and fishing should
(historically)be erratic, but on most the most part we are having a
strong month to date. We had two slow days after Hurricane Ike passed
below us(over 250 miles to the south) due to poor water clarity as we
got some wind and the resulting waves. We have been easily catching our
limit of King Mackerel on most trips, so we have made them our priority
target on most of our Fort Lauderdale fishing area charters. While not
specifically targeting Sails we are seeing them on about
one half of our trips.Bottom fishing has
been strong, especially for Mutton Snapper and this is to be expected
due to temporary rough sea conditions from the passing storms, as the
they seem to be the catalyst for large numbers of snapper to move into
our area. No really large fish, but the majority are of legal size.
Dorado(Mai-Mai) have been scattered, but today we were fortunate to boat
35(we were lucky) on an all day charter. Wahoo are scattered and fishing
for them the last full moon that just passed was poor.
Our fall baitfish migration is just getting
underway and will offer good opportunities for shallow and "off the
edge" angling opportunities but we expect varying degrees on success as
we often have to find several different schools of bait before
encountering hungry gamefish this time of year, but for now fishing is
strong
as we spoke of earlier
