Ft. Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing Reports
Ft.
Lauderdale
Deep
Sea Fishing Forecast -
September 2010
While the weather around the country begins to change Ft.
Lauderdale’s weather remains the same as summer
time… Hot! But the changing weather in other parts does change the fishing
here. Usually late in the month, schools of bait fish begin to travel south,
and with the bait comes the other fish migrating right behind them. This is
mostly due to the change in the sun’s angle over our area. As the sun moves
further south it allows the water to begin cooling. While we on land are
quite happy about this, the fish are a bit more sensitive to the temperature
change and follow the warmer water south.
Tuna and small Sailfish are the first to appear as this
change occur. While this happens in deeper water, the mullet running close
to the beach have Tarpon on their heels. It’s not unusual to see tarpon
feeding just yards from shore on the large schools of mullet.
The Bonito’s that we depend on so much as a bait source
begin to decline in numbers but the Kingfish usually stay. With all the
migrating bait, the food source is plentiful.
Another trend the last few years has been an increase
in Dolphin or Mahi mahi’s at this time of year. Some of the best fishing for
them has been in the late summer and early fall the past few years and with
the slow Dolphin season this year again, we’re expecting this trend to
continue.
So September brings change to Ft. Lauderdale
and the fishing here. But it usually isn’t till towards the end of the
month. Things really change in October but that’s NEXT month in Ft. Lauderdale’s
deep sea fishing forecast. You’ll just have to wait till then.
