Sometimes good things come in a smaller package. Fishing in Ft. Lauderdale , Fl. offers many shapes and sizes of offshore gamefish. These smaller Sailfish are one of the most beautiful fish in the ocean. Perfect replicas of their big brothers and sisters they enter into our bait spread with one thing in mind, and that is to eat. And eat they do, as nary a one just swims in and looks around. They come in hot and are all business, attacking the bait with a vengeance. I say ?a bait? as they typically stay on the bait they have chosen and relentlessly pursue that single bait until they get hooked up or are stung by the hook. This fellow took a live Bullet Bonito, which was quite a mouthful for a fish this size. Marine scientists feel they grow very fast, and fearlessly taking a bait that size gives credence to that theory. This fish made it into the boat for the picture and back into the ocean quickly, and in great condition. As you can see hardly a hair is out of place and what a colorful and handsome fish. Most often we choose to leave these little guys in the water for a boat side picture, not risking their being damaged by the hoist over the side and the handling while aboard. This one was quickly caught and hooked in the corner of the jaw, so Mike got his fish aboard picture. Any sign of damage or excessive fatigue and these little treasures are never brought aboard. Some good sized Kings around, quite a few of them way up inside the reef. Scattered Mahi-Mahi here as well, with many of them larger than this little fellow. Fishing here in Ft. Lauderdale can yield catches of all sizes and species. Today we were fortunate to catch that special perfect little Sail as the prized fish of the trip, and we?re just as happy as Mike.
