We are experiencing some stellar sea conditions as we begin a new week of fishing charters in Ft. Lauderdale. Many mornings fishing trips have begun as “pancake flat” with only a very small sea by the afternoons. Conditions such as these cause the deep fished trolled rods to draw the vast majority of bites.
An offering far back on the surface will also get its share of bites, with any species possible but Blackfin Tunas fall for that one more than the other species here now. And there are many species here now. September is not the best month in general for fishing here, but we have had some very good catches in some fine weather so far. The Blaclfin Tunas I mentioned, Kingfish, Bonitos, Barracudas, Wahoo and Sails within two miles of the beach. Some Mahi in there on occasion, but better numbers by far further offshore for at least another month. We have had some nice Amberjacks on live baits on wrecks both shallow and deep, and snappers when the current allows accurate positioning. And lots of Sandbar Sharks from 5 to 7 feet long are on the reefs and on many wrecks (eating off some of our bottom fish). Occasional Bull Sharks in that picture as well. This time of year has chances for rain. We have rain gear if needed and an enclosed A/C cabin if you wish to step inside to dodge some rain or direct sun, as we continue to have plenty of that too. I gathered up some pictures of some of our anglers that have joined us here aboard Marlin My Darlin.
