We had Max and his son Kadigan aboard the Marlin My Darlin for a ? day Ft. Lauderdale fishing charter today. This was a special trip for young Kadigan as he loves to fish back home in Oklahoma in the sweet water with his dad and wanted to tangle with something a bit larger and stronger in the saltwater offshore here. They were here early and eager to get underway. Captain Chris wound up his conversation as to what Max would like to see for Kadigan, got them familiar with the boat, and fired up the Detroits. Brian piched the dock lines and the charter was off the dock and underway ahead of schedule. As you can see by the photo and smiling Kadigan these Mahi-Mahi were welcomed additions to his species captured list. While not the largest fish these Mahi were good fun, provided some good aerial displays and did pull pretty well and that was good enough to show that smile. We of course were hoping for a Sail for Kadigan but we didn?t see one this charter, and the Mahi did provide good action. Live and rigged dead baits are both effective and the flying fish are getting hit hard by the Mahi. Always fun to watch.
The wind continues to blow here and we are all ready for it to back off a bit. Choppy offshore today for Max and Kadigan but those conditions push the Mahi inshore where we can have a better chance to successfully get on them. They are fun, colorful and good to eat so we are always happy to see them in the spread. Blue water once again pushed up inside the third reef line and the north current that we hope to find every time we head out the inlet was there and running at about 3/4 of a knot.
