April was nothing short of a spectacular springtime fishing season here in Fort Lauderdale. The month was marked by a flurry of incredible catches, including sailfish, large trophy game sharks, blackfin tuna, and mahi-mahi. We even snagged a handful of nice-sized wahoos over the last 30 days. In summary, April was fantastic, and we’re optimistic that May will be even better.
**Offshore Mahi-Mahi Fishing**
The offshore mahi-mahi catch has been somewhat scarce, although some anglers have gotten lucky by finding floating debris, which often yields a handful of nice fish. While the action is currently on the slower side, we anticipate improvements as the season progresses into summer.
**Kite Fishing**
Kite fishing was absolutely phenomenal throughout April. A strong push of sailfish, aided by favorable weather and currents, resulted in some impressive kite fishing outings. Our catches included sailfish, mahi-mahi, tuna, wahoo, and even giant game sharks like tiger and hammerhead sharks. We even had a rare sighting of a great white!
**Trolling Along the Reef**
Trolling along the reef started slow at the beginning of the month but picked up significantly in the latter half. We’ve experienced excellent blackfin tuna catches in the afternoons, alongside smaller mahi-mahi and a few nice wahoos in waters ranging from 100 to 500 feet deep. With some persistence, you’re sure to reel in some great catches for dinner, especially in the late afternoons this time of year.
**Bottom Fishing**
Although we haven’t focused heavily on bottom fishing, the results have been promising. We’ve caught impressive-sized amberjacks and a couple of American red snappers recently. The beginning of May also marks the opening of grouper season, adding to the excitement.
**Conclusion**
