The cold weather has ignited a fishing frenzy here in Fort Lauderdale, and our recent charter trips have been nothing short of spectacular! If you’re looking for great fishing adventures, now is an ideal time to book your charter with us.
Bottom Fishing: A Bonanza
Over the last ten days, the bottom fishing has been phenomenal! We’ve made headlines by catching not just one, but two rare Warsaw groupers—an extraordinary accomplishment, as landing even one in a year is considered a significant success. In addition, our snapper fishing has been red hot! Anglers have been reeling in impressive catches, including large yelloweye snappers, vermilion snappers, and hefty mutton snappers. The recent cold weather has pushed many fish south, making it a perfect time to fill your freezer with delicious catches.
Kite Fishing: Sailfish Take the Stage
Kite fishing continues to deliver outstanding results. We’ve been hooking some massive sailfish, with some reaching over 7 feet! Alongside the sailfish, we’ve also seen plenty of mahi-mahi, blackfin tuna, and a few hefty wahoo. For anglers, kite fishing is one of the most exhilarating ways to fish during the winter and early spring, and it has proven to be very rewarding for our clients.
Reef Trolling: Slow Yet Steady
While trolling along the reef has been somewhat slow, with fewer king mackerel and big bonitas in the area over the past couple of months, the silver lining is the presence of some large wahoos. Known for their impressive speed and exceptional taste, catching a wahoo—often referred to as the “meat missile”—is always a highlight of the trip.
Offshore Mahi: Awaiting the Peak
Unfortunately, the offshore mahi fishing has been lackluster lately. This fishery typically picks up around April, with peak season occurring in September. However, our experienced crew is always ready to adjust our tactics to optimize your experience.
Swordfish: The Unicorn of the Sea
In exciting news, our offshore sword fishing has been absolutely fantastic! Commercial fishermen have reported impressive night catches of multiple fish, while daytime anglers are also landing some hefty specimens. We’ve witnessed several swordfish weighing between 300 and 500 pounds caught in the last few weeks. Swordfish are notoriously difficult to catch, often referred to as the “unicorn” of the ocean, making each successful catch a true trophy.
Looking Ahead
Overall, the fishing report for Fort Lauderdale over the last couple of weeks has been exceptional, and it’s only expected to improve as we transition into spring.
