Marlin My Darlin | Sportfish Charter Fleet
Summary
South Florida fishing has been outstanding across the board this week. Both boats in the Marlin My Darlin fleet have been catching limits and exciting catches during daytime and nighttime trips. Expect great weather and prime action across offshore and nearshore waters.
Offshore Action (Day and Night)
– Overall: Excellent fishing with consistent bites and superb weather. Both boats have been filling limits with kingfish, bonita, sailfish, wahoo, and mahi-mahi over the last 10 days.
– Species highlights: Kingfish, bonita, sailfish, wahoo, and mahi-mahi have been the standout targets. Expect steady bites and multiple hookups on most trips.
Reef Trolling
– Trolling along the reef has been producing the best results over the past 10 days.
– Catches: Robust action on wahoo, bonita, sailfish, and a number of kingfish mixed in.
– Tactics: Reef trolling remains one of the most effective ways to target a wide range of species. We’ve even had a rare hammerhead hookup this week—definitely a memorable moment!
Shark Fishing (Summer Season)
– Pulse: Summer shark fishing has been red-hot.
– Top species: Hammerheads have been especially prevalent, with big bull sharks, lemon sharks, and even a large tiger shark making appearances in the mix.
– Peak timing: Summer is the prime time for shark charters, and we’re in the thick of it.
Mahi-Mahi Offshore
– Status: Offshore mahi-mahi fishing has been variable but trending stronger as we move through summer.
– Expectation: Some trips are producing great mahi bites, while others are still finding fewer schools. As we move further into late summer and hurricane season, we anticipate more consistent mahi action.
Swordfish
– Deep-water bite: Swordfishing offshore in deep water has been solid.
– Reported depth and setup: Day and night fishing with electric reels is producing the larger fish, with several fish in the 300–400+ pound range reported recently.
– Location and kit: Deep-water, 2000 feet range; electric reel setups are standard.
Bottom Fishing: Snapper and Grouper
– Bottom action: The past couple of weeks have been strong on vermilion snapper and snowy grouper, with a few big summertime wrecks coming in too.
– Notable catches: Warsaw snapper showing up in the 50–80 pound range on occasion, adding variety to bottom trips.
Conclusion
Overall, South Florida fishing remains fantastic. If you’re planning activities for the Fourth of July weekend, the water is hot and the weather looks beautiful. Whether you’re joining us aboard Marlin My Darlin or simply heading out on a non-charter trip, you’re likely to find excellent fishing right now.
